Course
Registration and number collection on the day will be at the Race HQ on the ground floor of the main stand at the Racecourse. Follow signs and directions from marshals.
The races start together at 10:30 at the winning post of Bath Racecourse. We head off for a loop of part of the race track, looping back through the start, before heading over to Prospect Stile which gives runners a chance to spread out before the descent along the Cotswold Way down to the water/aid station at the edge of Weston. Then you turn and run back up the hill along the Cotswold Way to a kissing gate, and from there up Kelston Roundhill. Taking in glorious views, you descend to a rustic track and make your way along Little Down to the charming village of North Stoke. Turning right, pass through the village, past the church, and stagger upwards along a rough track before turning sharp right just before the skyline. Run along a flat section among the sheep and turn left up to the old hill fort, before proceeding to Prospect Stile.
At Prospect Stile the Ultra 10k runners turn back towards the Racecourse and repeat two thirds of the circuit of the western lobe of the Racecourse, finishing around 100m beyond the finishing post.
At Prospect Stile the Hilly Half runners repeat the descent and run the loop again. Once back at Prospect Stile for the second time you turn for the finish line. A map of the course is below:
The course has steep hills and rough tracks, and a number of stiles and kissing gates. 85% is on rough tracks, 10% on grass and less than 5% on tarmac.
The Hilly Half double loop route involves a total ascent of almost 600m (the Ultra 10k is almost 300m). That’s tough.
Although marshals will be on the course, runners are responsible for completing the course correctly.
Once you reach the finish, we’ll record your number and time which will be posted to the website after the race. At the finish the traditional carrots, beer and water will be waiting for you. Hot drinks and cakes will be available for a donation in the Race HQ.
The prize giving ceremony will take place at 12:30 in the Race HQ.
Download gpx files for the Bath Hilly Half, and for the Ultra 10k.
Kit Requirements
There are no kit requirements. However, at this time of year it could be cold and the conditions wet and slippery underfoot, so please consider what kit is appropriate. Spikes are not recommended as there are tarmac and rocky sections.
